How did we lose our way?
How'd we get so tame?

Some of us buck
When we're led by the nose.
Fight real hard
To hold onto our own.
But the human flood
Creates unstoppable tides,
And our dragon-shaking dances
Are damp.
Ritualised.

Our new gods
Demand sacrifices,
But we never ask
If the price is
Too high.
Only look ahead
To future brightness
While the life fire dies
And the greyness
Engulfs us.

The experts tell us to trust them.
They tell us they know something.
They know that alright!
A few con-jobs to delight.
If your attentions' on the gimmicks
You'll soon be believing their tricks!

You'll end up
Afraid to know
What dwells below
The thin veneer
That's been imposed
And super-imposed...

Layer upon layer
Of false memory
Til you forgotton that

Wildness is part of you and me,
Like rain soaking into sand.
Or sap rising up a tree.

What would happen
If they feared the sap rising
Or the rain falling?

Fox is in the long grass
Peeking from the side,
Hoping someday we'll wake up --
Realise
How we could be living
When we welcome the wild.
